Learn About Scottish Heritage Day!

On May 29, 2022, The Dandenong Agricultural and Pastoral Society celebrates the Scottish Heritage Day to commemorate and honour our ties with Scotland.

The celebration is now going into its 20th year. There will be a range of fun, family-friendly activities on offer to enjoy across Greater Dandenong.

Come and Join the Fun

The highly anticipated 20th Annual Scottish Heritage Day will be held at the Dandenong Showgrounds on Sunday, 29th May 2022, after being side-lined by COVID-19 for the last two years.

The fun begins at 10:00 AM up to 3:00 PM at the Dandenong Showgrounds – Greaves Reserve, Bennet Street, Dandenong. Admission and car parking to the event is FREE.

Make your move this Scottish Heritage Day and take part in seeing different breeds of Scottish horses and dogs in competition. All the fun and excitement is open to everyone of all ages and abilities.

Join in all the activities we have to offer so walk, run, stroll, push or roll like no one is watching. Hungry? Not a problem, a sausage sizzle will be on offer for all our guests and participants, and down it with refreshing Devonshire Tea, the sales of which helps us raise money to fund next year’s event.

Scottish History Takes Centre Stage

The last weekend of May features all things Scottish, with a healthy dose of Dandenong’s past takes centre stage as at the Dandenong Showgrounds.

The free festivities would showcase animal breeds that originated in Scotland, including Clydesdale horses, Shetland and Welsh ponies, Welsh Black Cattle, and various dogs.

They have mare and foal shows in Scotland, which Dandenong’s Scottish Heritage day will also have. The event aims to create an atmosphere that every member of your family will surely enjoy.

Adding to a day of fun and entertainment, we aim to bring a bit of Scotland to Dandenong. Be entertained by bagpipes and town criers dressed in old gear in a town crier competition. Enjoy listening and dancing to highland music. Don your best kilt and join in the competition for adults and children and win cash prizes.

The annual Dandenong Scottish Heritage Day recognise the outstanding contribution made by the Scots and by the people within Greater Dandenong who work tirelessly to enrich our lives and that of our diverse community.

The Scottish Heritage Day Celebration always brings a bit of Scotland to Dandenong. As Dandenong, the rest of Australia, and the world continues to reel and slowly bounce back from the effects of the pandemic, it is important that our arts, culture, and heritage is celebrated, promoted, and remains reflective and relevant.

The society missed celebrating with you these past two years, and we are more than glad to come back and appreciate our heritage.
